The king of bokeh in image post-production

The most exciting image post-production tool on the market is back, and this time it’s got some bokeh.

London, UK (March 26, 2021) – FXhome’s next-generation imaging software – Imerge Pro – gets better with each release. The first (and most important) update of 2021 brings a whole host of new organizational tools to photographers and artists looking to improve their workflow, but FXhome has a little more up its sleeve than that.

Lens blur

Digital lens blurs aren’t new to the post-production world, but they’ve never been particularly authentic compared to their real-world optical counterparts. FXhome is looking to change that with a bespoke lens blur algorithm that bends light like a real lens would.

The new Lens Blur adds to Immerge’s impressive arsenal of 71 creative effects that already include volumetric light rays, chromatic aberration, and a smart shadow generation tool. The effect gives users the ability to simulate realistic depth of field (with authentic bokeh balls), with options to adjust the smoothness, bloom, and shape of the bokeh with virtually endless possibilities. Users can even simulate the cinematic and “stretched” look of expensive anamorphic lenses, or define custom bokeh shapes based on a source file.

Lens Blur isn’t the only new effect added in Imerge Pro 2021. The new version also features a “Leave Color” effect – which can create striking “color splash” effects by preserving one color while desaturating everything else. Like many other Immerge precision color tools, this effect includes options to preserve skin tones, grays, and black-and-white, or isolate to Lab color space for greater precision. Also included is a new ‘Magnify’ effect for those always fun ‘bulge’ and ‘pinch’ effects (it’s brain time).

Effects aren’t all Imerge 2021 brings to the table though. The software, which is the world’s first fully non-destructive RAW image composer, now includes a ton of new workflow enhancements to help photographers keep their files organized. Hot Folders, extensive export options and new built-in EXIF / IPTC editor to keep metadata control. It’s also easy to create custom tag-based naming conventions for batch exports (which Imerge does incredibly well). Users have 32 tags covering everything from layer names to dimensions, dates and camera data.

Imerge Pro 2021 is available now on fxhome.com for $ 199 and comes with a 12 month update period as standard. A demo is also available for “try before you buy”.
