NEW ID announced that the company has completed the development of its AI-powered post-production, which opens the door for more content to be enjoyed on global OTT platforms.

NEW ID, the digital content and multimedia platform business subsidiary of Next Entertainment World (NEW), markets SKT’s AI-based post-production (AIPP) technology. NEW ID signed an exclusive contract with SKT to commercialize its AI-based post-production technology used to remove subtitles, TV rating labels, music, and completed the development of an automated AIPP platform .

The biggest obstacle to exporting Korean entertainment content is not only the language, but also the music copyright issues when the finalized content is distributed worldwide. Whether it’s removing copyrighted music, burnt-in Korean subtitles, TV rating labels and PPL images, it’s important for global OTT services to remove subtitles, including including voice captions used in entertainment content and Korean captions which are increasing in number due to the frequent use of English in Korean dramas.

As global OTT platforms increasingly focus on Korean content, media localization enables both globalization and localization of Korean content, which is also in high demand.

NEW ID focuses on commercializing original SKT technology by removing subtitles, removing graphics such as logo, recognizing and removing audio sources without losing voice. In addition, NEW ID will collaborate with SKT to improve the quality and efficiency of the global localization process with its “5GX Supernova” video remastering technology and automatic caption generation technology. NEW ID will use SKT’s AI-based technology to break down barriers preventing K-content from being broadcast on global streaming platforms and expand global distribution channels.

NEW ID is the only Korean media company to have launched and operated premium Asian entertainment channels on over 20 global streaming platforms including Amazon, Roku, Plex and Tubi. Using AIPP technology, NEW ID quickly expanded its post-production services by working with broadcast networks to improve content quality and post-production efficiency to help their content move through the worldwide to global OTT platforms.

Hyuk Kim, Vice President and Head of Global Media Support Office at SK Telecom
I look forward to seeing Korean entertainment content push the Korean wave to new heights in the media content industry with the help of AIPP solutions that solve the export difficulties due to Korean subtitles and music without license. We will continue to develop media localization technology that makes it easier to export K.
