Video streaming company Netflix will set up its world’s first live post-production facility in Mumbai, the company said.

“We are delighted to share that Mumbai will be home to Netflix’s first full-service, full-service post-production facility in the world,” the company said in an official statement.

The new facility will be fully operational by June 2022. It will have 40 offline editing rooms designed as a “flexible and collaborative” environment for showrunners, directors, editors and sound designers.

“With innovation and collaboration as the primary focus, the facility will pioneer advanced media management workflows that will enable a seamless partnership with India’s post-production community,” the company said.

Netflix invested 3,000 crore in local programming in India in 2019 and 2020. In March of this year, it announced its programming of 41 titles in India. The list of originals content that Netflix India will offer this year includes 13 films, 15 series – including season two renewals – four documentaries, three reality shows, as well as six comedy specials.

“We invest in the latest technology and skills development through multiple certifications and training workshops in post-production, screenwriting and other aspects of creative production,” he said.

The company is still figuring things out in India, although it continues to invest here with an eye on future growth prospects.

“India, we are still figuring things out. And so, this investment takes courage and conviction looking to the future, ”said Reed Hasting, co-founder of Netflix, in a call after the results earlier this year.

Overall, Netflix added around 3.98 million subscribers worldwide from January to March 2021.
