Melaka Polls: Smooth voting process, high compliance with SOPs at polling centers


MELAKA: The voting process for the Melaka State elections is going smoothly with voters strictly adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs) stipulated under the new normal to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Election Commission (EC) Chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh visited two polling centers to ensure the smooth running of the voting process, as well as compliance with SOPs among voters.

He spent about 20 minutes at the SK Tun Syed Ahmad Shahabudin Ayer Keroh polling center, after arriving there at 10:15 a.m., also took the opportunity to visit the special polling tents provided for voters with symptoms or a temperature. body above 37.5 degrees Celsius.

He also visited the polling station of SMK Bukit Katil and expressed satisfaction with the procedures carried out by EC officials, especially to avoid congestion in the polling stations.

So far, no unfortunate incident has been reported in the two voting centers.

Voters are reminded to observe physical distancing, wear face masks, use hand sanitizers, take body temperature and register attendance by scanning the MySejahtera QR code before entering the voting centers.

Voting for the Melaka State election started at 8am today with the opening of 217 polling centers involving 1,109 channels.

The process, involving 476,037 regular voters out of a total of 495,195 registered voters, is handled by a total of 12,290 poll workers in 28 constituencies. Polling stations will close at 5:30 p.m. today. – Bernama
