Post-production in the agricultural sector is definitely a challenge and the government has taken many steps to build the necessary infrastructure to solve this problem by setting up eNAM and other facilities, the Minister of Agriculture said on Wednesday. ‘Farming Narendra Singh Tomar.
To address post-production challenges, Tomar said the government has so far connected about 1,000 regulated wholesale mandis to the electronic National Agriculture Market (e-NAM), sanctioned Rs 9,500 crore for 13,000 projects under the Agri-Infra Fund and encouraged the establishment of agricultural producer organizations (OPP) in addition to promoting technologies such as drones.
“Not production, but post-production is definitely an issue today,” Tomar said at a conference on “Improving Agricultural Markets” jointly organized by the National Stock Exchange and
Tomar also mentioned that efforts to resolve post-production issues have been made from time to time in the past, but the desired results could not be achieved.
However, over the past eight years, several measures have been taken to address post-production issues so that farmers get better prices and their incomes increase, he said.
He also said that there is a good market for organic products as their exports have increased.
