CF Industries Holdings, Inc. has started restarting the ammonia plant at its Billingham complex in the UK. The restart follows an interim agreement to cover the costs of restarting the ammonia plant and producing CO2 for the UK market.

The company halted operations at the Billingham and Ince manufacturing complexes last week due to high natural gas prices. CO2 is a by-product of the ammonia production process. The safe restart of the ammonia plant at the Billingham complex is expected to take several days.

“We would like to thank the Honorable Kwasi Kwarteng, Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and all his staff for working tirelessly to reach this agreement allowing the restart of the plant. and avoiding a potential of CO2 supply disruption impacting many industries, including the availability of food and drink for UK consumers, ”said Tony Will, President and CEO of CF Industries Holdings, Inc.“ We look forward to to work with Secretary Kwarteng and the UK government to develop a longer term solution. , including the development of alternative CO suppliers2 for the UK market.
