Boundless Life gets $2 million in funding round for carefully designed communities for digital nomad families

The first location is in the culturally rich and artistically renowned town of Sintra, Portugal

The educational offering is what sets Boundless Life apart in the digital nomad space. A Nordic Baccalaureate program inspired by the Finnish school system allows digital nomad families with school-aged children aged 1 to 12 to participate.

Today, Boundless Life announced that it has secured US$2 million in funding from a combination of venture capitalists (VCs), angel investors and syndicates. Funds raised will be used for key hires and the opening of the startup’s first four carefully designed, full-service community locations in beautiful destinations around the world. In each location, slow-traveling digital nomad families can build relationships, work remotely, and be immersed in the culture while their children continue their education through an internationally renowned educational program.

The company just opened its first site in January in the culturally and artistically rich town of Sintra, Portugal, with 30 turnkey homes and a first, second and third cohort of fully booked families. The residences are located in the center of the historic city, 5-15 minutes walk from all community amenities, including the coworking center, education center and leisure spaces. The Boundless Life team removes many of the risks associated with uprooting her family, helping with visas, health insurance and planning programs to foster a sense of community.

IDEA Fund Partners, a North Carolina-based investment firm, is the lead investor. Other supporters of the project include Ange Québec, Avalanche VC, CUBD Ventures, Massive BC, GV Angels, several founding families and value-added investors in real estate and education from Europe, North America, from South America and Asia. Boundless Life also received recognition checks from Lightspeed and Sequoia.

“When we started the fundraising process, our goal was to raise from investors aligned with our values and who believed in our vision of creating more fulfilling lives for families,” said Mauro Repacci, co-founder and CEO of Boundless Life. “We couldn’t be happier with the incredible group of over 30 investors who have joined this round which includes VCs, Angels and clients from all parts of the world. They support our mission not only with capital, but also with their expertise to improve our offer and our relationships to help us grow around the world.

The educational offering is what sets Boundless Life apart in the digital nomad space. A Nordic Baccalaureate program inspired by the Finnish school system allows digital nomad families with school-aged children aged 1 to 12 to participate. Through experiential, personalized, purposeful and nature-based learning, Boundless Life is revolutionizing the way children learn and consequently shaping a generation that will positively impact humanity by combining future-ready education with travel and cultural immersion. The program follows the children where they go. So if a family moves to another Boundless Life destination, the child can join a new cohort and learn new age-appropriate skills.

“As remote work exploded, several companies considered creating experiences for singles, but no one was addressing the complexities of being a digitally nomadic family,” said Christopher Langford, partner at IDEA Fund Partners. “Combining a world-class education platform with a concierge service to help you navigate everything from visas to healthcare to social activities, Boundless is the first company to enable families to live a more culturally rich, community-centered lifestyle around the world is a small part of what they’re building.”

“Our investment team really fell in love with the Boundless life project,” said Rachel Viens, VC partner at Anges Québec. “The business is disruptive but rooted in a real challenge that families face when seeking a nomadic lifestyle. We have been comforted by the serial entrepreneurial past of Mauro Repacci and Marco Carvalhos, as have our angel investors. We can’t wait to see the Boundless life community grow!

In an effort to facilitate a mindful and balanced lifestyle, destinations are chosen based on cutting-edge scientific research into the habits of people who inhabit regions of the planet with the greatest longevity. Upcoming Boundless destinations include Spain, Greece, Morocco, Italy, Costa Rica and Bali. In order to slow down travel around the world with Boundless Life, families must first join the waiting list which can be located on the official website.

“We are delighted to see the reaction of most investors when they had the opportunity to support the company,” said Marcos Carvalho, co-founder and head of demand generation at Boundless Life. “Many have told us that they would totally use a service like Boundless Life and that now is the perfect time for such an endeavor. Our team is looking forward to expanding this lifestyle worldwide with their support.
