– The shooting of this film, which took part in the second edition of ECAM’s La Incubadora and won the Award for best project at Ventana Cine Mad, completed in early August
Cinco Lobitos by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa
Filming for Cinco Lobitos (bed. “Five wolf cubs“), the first feature film by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, featuring Laia Costa and Susi Sanchez, ended in Bakio, Spain, after five weeks of location shooting in Madrid and Biscay. Now immersed in post-production, it is one of the titles that participated in the second edition of La Incubadora, directed by ECAM (To see the new), and won the award for best project at Ventana Ciné Fou. Laia Costa (an actress who rose to fame in the film Victoria [+see also:

interview: Ramón Salazar
film profile]) gives life to Begoña, Amaia’s mother; Ramon barea (Rosa’s wedding [+see also:
film profile]) appears as Koldo, his father; and Mikel Bustamante (which will adorn screens imminently in Maixabel [+see also:
film profile]) portrays Javi, Amaia’s partner.
According to the synopsis provided by the production companies, Amaia has just become a mom and realizes that she has no idea how to take on the role. When her companion is away for a few weeks, she decides to return to her parents’ place, in a coastal town in the Basque Country, and thus share the responsibility of taking care of her baby. What she doesn’t know is that, although she is now a mother, she will never stop being a girl too.
In the director’s own words, âThe shoot was an intense journey from start to finish, with so much selflessness on the part of the cast. I’m still getting out of this free space, but I really want to start editing and finish shaping this story. When I wrote the script, I thought over and over again to a question: when will we stop being sons or daughters? It was wonderful to find the answer as we progressed through the shoot. Even though we can become mothers or fathers ourselves, we never cease to be daughters or sons. We think we are becoming adults, but it only takes one sentence from our mother and we feel like children again.
“I decided to dissect the process by which, thanks to her own motherhood, a mother for the first time in crisis comes to understand her mother in a way she could never have imagined,” continues the director. âAnd the protagonist’s mother is not just any old mother: she belongs to a generation of women who have stayed at home and become lonely and invisible caregivers; women who are usually not at the center of anything and whom I wanted to transform at the heart of this story.
